Physical Therapy Freedom of Choice: Direct Access

December 14, 2023

We get this question often:  Can you choose where you receive physical therapy?  Well there is good news!  You have the freedom of choice to select where you go for physical therapy treatment after your surgery, accident, ankle pain, shoulder pain, sciatica, neck pain and anything else that you are suffering from.

Many people do not know that it is a patient’s right to choose where they want to go for physical therapy treatment.  Beginning in 2006, the State of Connecticut passed a law, The Direct Access Act, giving people the opportunity to go to physical therapy without a doctor’s referral and/or prescription. Meaning that if you have any conditions that require treatment you are able to independently call a physical therapy to set up an evaluation (CLICK HERE TO REQUEST AN EVALUATION) and continued treatment without seeing a doctor.  Furthermore, all future treatment rendered is simply processed through your active insurance.

Also, it may feel overwhelming or difficult when adjusting to an unfamiliar clinic along with a new physical therapist. This is another reason why freedom of choice is so advantageous when you’ve been to a physical therapist previously, developed a great relationship and have experienced exceptional care.

Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Therapists in Seattle, WA — Alpine Physical Therapy

The difference between a physician owned practice and an independent physical therapy practice is that the physician owned practice dedicates only a portion of their business efforts to physical therapy. Where as an independent physical therapy company dedicates all of its resources only to physical therapy.  As an independent owned practice our mission is to provide the absolute best tailored care to our patients, putting them first while focusing on achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients.  By having enough space and dedicated staff we are able to see a patient within 24 hours and provide concierge-like care inside of state of the art facilities.  This is how we can achieve optimal results and spread positive outcomes throughout the community.

This letter was written to inform the community that they do have a choice in their healthcare and have the right and ability to go where they want for their physical therapy along with the opportunity to reach out to a physical therapist first to see if conservative, non-invasive treatments will work prior to surgical interventions.
